CASE-ing the Catty #23 - Hello Life Project Kit

It's time for the 23rd Challenge at CASE-ing the Catty & this week we are taking inspiration from the SAB & Occasions catties, using a combination of SAB & Occasions stamps & accessories on our project.

When I first saw the Hello Life Project Kit in the Occasions catty, I "had to have" the wire frame. I love the industrial look that is around at present, where home decor replicates furniture, fixtures & fittings that could have been taken from an old factory or commercial premise.

Well, I ordered my kit & this is what has become of it:-

Dimensional flowers & banners feature very heavily in both catties, so I used that as a starting point & adopted a very simple palette of black & vanilla, inspired by the Typeset DSP.  I only used a handful of elements from the kit (i.e., the wire frame, two black photo frames, a black mat which I turned into a third photo frame, the black banner & the black heart on the middle banner.

To create the banner string, I stripped the metallic thread from Gold Baker's Twine to leave just the vanilla cotton.  I added the black banner which was embossed with the Spring Flowers embossing folder (unfortunately it doesn't show well in the photo) & added a teeny embossed butterfly with a pearl centre which was coloured with a black sharpie marker.

The middle banner is a vanilla piece stamped with the honeycomb image from the Butterfly Basics set. The floral image on the fourth banner comes from the SAB set Simply Wonderful, stamped on vanilla.  The diagonal stripe print is also from the Typeset DSP.

I couldn't decide what photos to add to the frames, so I opted for a decor piece themed with butterflies.  I used images & a sentiment from the Butterfly Basics set:-

I created three different "coloured" flowers by using different prints from the Typeset DSP which had varying intensity of pattern. Cutting them was a breeze with the Bouquet Bigz Die (which I also used here).  Here are close-ups of the flowers:-

The kit comes with silver painted mini pegs but I substitued gold ones from the Annual Catty to match the Antique Brads in the flower centres.  There are also some vanilla Candy Dots on one of the frames.

I have to say I am really happy with how this piece turned out & will enjoy switching out elements in the future (just don't expect to see any Crushed Curry pompoms, lol!)  :)

We hope you can play along with us at CASE-ing the Catty this week.  The Design Team, including our Guest Designer - Julia Quinn, have a wonderful group of projects to inspire you.

CASE-ing the Catty #21 - SAB/Occasions Gift Bag

It's time to CASE the Catty again!  This week the Team at CTC are CASE-ing a project from the EVERY DAY Section of the Occasions catalogue.  Here is a gift bag I created, using the bag on page 30 as my starting point:-

I have kept the design fairly similar, with a few minor tweaks.  I tried making a flower using the two largest sizes of petals from the Bouquet Bigz die, but it was enormous!!!!  I settled for this camellia type bloom by using two layers of the five petal flower, then one layer of the smallest single petal, then two layers of the next size single petals.  All the petals have been curled upwards & I added a heap of stamens for the centre.  I punched three ellipse shapes with a circle punch, then folded & scrunched them to create the leaves.

This print was my favourite out of the Best Year Ever DSP pack & I've used most of two sheets to create the bag (there's a little left over to create a matching card at some stage).  It measures 9" high by 5" wide x 3" deep.  There is a 2" wide strip on the inside of both 5" edges to secure the handles (which I removed from another bag) & I lined the bottom with the floral print to match the outside:-

I wanted to add some ribbon, so tucked a couple of loops & tails behind the flower.  The calypso banner is a brayered piece of Irresistibly Yours DSP & the sentiment comes from the Simply Wonderful stamp set.

We hope you can find some time to CASE the Catty with us this week.  My fellow DT members have some beautiful samples to inspire you.  You can find them & details of the challenge here:-
