The Lollipop Ladies Challenge #52 - Guest Spot

A while back I won a challenge at The Lollipop Ladies & was excited to be invited to submit a sample for the current challenge.  The challenge is to create a project using inspiration from Barley Sugars, with the added twist of acetate.  Here is the inspiration pic:-

I've obviously taken the yellow colour & all that glorious sparkle & sheen to create my card, plus the twisty ends of the cellophane wrappers reminded me of wings, so this is what I've came up with:-

I made a box style card, that folds flat for mailing, but pops open to create a 3D frame to house my DSP & embossed acetate butterfly.  I wanted lots of reflection so I covered the entire front panel of the card with double sided adhesive paper & then gave it (& everything else in a one metre radius) a liberal coating of Dazzling Diamonds!

What will you create with from the inspiration pic?  Make sure you visit The Lollipop Ladies, check out the DT samples & join in the fun.  You may win a guest DT spot too!  :)

A Bloggy Holiday!

Sorry, no new posts for a while as I'm on holidays, enjoying some sun!  If Mr Blogger plays nicely, there is a post scheduled for the 26th!

I'm not sure that I will be eating icecream while I am away, but here's one for you to enjoy, (made with my favourite die - the Petal Cone).

Happy Stamping....

The Paper Players Challenge #108 - More shapes from Framelit Dies!

This week at the Paper Players, Ann has these fabulous colours to work with:-

I've chosen to make a thank you card, with a vintage feel:-

To get the vintage vibe, I have used the awesome Perfectly Penned stamp set, inking first in Cherry, then rock 'n' rolling the edges with Not Quite Navy. This technique works wonderfully well with this particular stamp set & gives a great retro look.

I've used a two step process to get a square embossed panel using the Tulip embossing folder.  (Here's a link to a video tute if you would like to try it.)

A while ago, I was playing around with my framelit Label dies (see this card) & discovered that you can create an awesome shape by making your die cut & then rotating the die 90 degrees & recutting.  Here's a visual, so you can see what I mean:-

  1. Cut your label shape.
  2. Rotate the die 90 degrees & place over your die-cut.
  3. Add some temporary adhesive (I used post it note strips) so it doesn't move when you feed it through your Big Shot machine.  (Sorry, I've realised I rotated the image between steps 2 & 3.)
  4. Voila!  A new die-cut shape.  :)

Sponging, my favourite woodgrain stamp, an antique brad & some gorgeous waffle ribbon (that I was gifted by a very special friend ♥) complete the card.

The rest of the Team have some magnificent samples for your enjoyment, so please make sure you visit & leave some comment love:-

Just Add Ink Challenge #129 - Happy Birthday Christine!!!!

Yesterday I had the pleasure of a lunch date with two very lovely ladies from the JAI Team, Christine Blain & Nikki Spencer (waving madly to you girls!)  ♥

It's Christine's birthday today (please make sure you go give her some birthday love!) so I thought it appropriate to create her card using the current Just Add Ink sketch:-

& here is the card:-

It's all SU except for the Tulip stamp, which is an old Hero Arts stamp (like about 15+ years old, lol!)  I've watercoloured the flowers with inks & an aquapainter.

ETA:  A big thank you to the lovely ladies at JAI, who awarded me with this:-

The Paper Players Challenge #107 - Back to School Rules with a Die-Cut Apple!

This week's challenge at The Paper Players is "Back to School RULES!"  Now mention of school always invokes that thought of "an apple for the teacher" & that is what I have created this week:-

A die-cut apple card!  I've used the petal cone die to get the basic shape of my apple, but I adjusted the width, so the apple was not so fat, by folding my cardstock in half & bringing the fold away from the centre crease line, like this:-

The bottom curved edge of the apple was cut by hand.  To disguise the crease lines in my apple shape, I've embossed it with the lattice embossing folder, & used just a "touch" of sponging, lol!

I traced around my embossed apple to get the shape for my actual card. The leaf was punched from the blossom petals builder punch & the stem was made from the round tab punch.  The stem was sandwiched in between the embossed layer of the apple & the actual card.  A layered tag, attached with cherry baker's twine completes the project.  I think it kinda looks like one of those straight sided Jonathon Apples - yum!

We hope you can join us this week - here's the Challenge details & link, & below it you will find links to the Team, so you can check out all their gorgeous school inspired creations.  Obviously I am not the only one who associates apples with school, as you will find a couple more apples there too, lol.  :)
