Origami on the Edge - JAI13

This week the team at Just Add Ink have tempted us with a colour challenge - Barely Banana, Kiwi Kiss & Chocolate Chip!  Yum!  To play along & see the DT's delicious creations visit here.

Here is my creation this week:-

I wanted to make a slightly "technical" card for my son, who is studying to become an engineer.  When he opened the card, he dryly informed me "that it was folded paper, so it wasn't paper engineering, it was ORIGAMI!"

Anyway, this is how the card looked before it was folded & the kiwi & chocolate DSP panels were added:-

The finished card is 4 x 6 inches (cardstock measures 4" x 11").  The first fold is at 1", the second is at 2", the third is at 4.1/2" & the final fold is at 7".  The letters were stamped BEFORE any folds were made (I had ruled in a light pencil line as a guide to stamp the letters).  I simply cut around the right hand side of the letters with a scalpel & also trimmed around some of the letters on their left hand side.  Then the card was folded.  (Only fold above & below the letters, so the letters sit flat "out on the edge".)

I removed the pins from a brad & adhered it to the full stop with a dimensional dot.

This is how the card looks from above (from behind), so you can see how the letters on the edge work:-

By the way, I told my dear son that next year he was getting one of these, which actually is origami!  :)

Remember playing with these as kids, writing numbers on the panels & a "fortune" under each flap?
